William "Bill" Curtis Vineyard, 73, passed away surrounded by his family after a three year battle with cancer on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. Bill was married to his loving wife, Jane for 43 years. Together they raised four children who went on to have twelve grandchildren. In 1987 Bill founded Atishwin Institute which was the first intermediate treatment program in the State of Kansas. He served thousands of those suffering from the disease of addiction. He worked as an advocate in the Community alongside the education and legal system helping to carry the message of recovery and addiction in Kansas. He was a forerunner in the field of addiction who ceaselessly sought techniques to help the suffering with open arms and an open door. Those who knew him cherished his ability to see suffering and walk alongside their healing journey. He was a KS Junior Olympian Sprinter, a Kierkegaard Scholar, an Orthodox Christian, a grateful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 44 years, and a Harley Biker. Family meant everything to Bill but he had the capacity to make everyone part of his family. He loved his family immensely, and never shied from a moment to be their hero, champion, or place to fall. He confronted his death like he lived his life-poetic, headstrong, and old-school. Bill was preceded in death by his grandson, James Paul Mason II. Survivors include his wife Jane of 43 years; son, Kyle (Rebekah); daughters, Monaica (Andrew) Ledell; Kayla Vineyard, and Janie Vineyard, sister Karlene Wegner; grandchildren Johanna, June and Josephine, Royal, Layla and Damir, Reid and Lane, Ezra, Henry and Roman. Funeral service will include viewing at 6:00pm followed by funeral service at 7:00pm, Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023 at St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral. Graveside service will be 11:00am Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023 at Kensington Gardens.
