"Some day you will read in the papers that D.L. Moody of East Northfield, is dead. Don't you believe a word of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now; I shall have gone up higher, that is all, out of this old clay tenement into a house that is immortal—a body that death cannot touch, that sin cannot taint; a body fashioned like unto His glorious body." ~ D.L. Moody
Wanda Powers passed away on June 26, 2024, at the age of 81, after a courageous faith battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living for Jesus and sharing the gospel.
Wanda was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was born to Lloyd and Annie Reed on March 9, 1943, in Bristow, OK. In her preteen years, she moved to Wichita, KS, where she met the love of her life at sixteen and married her native man a year later. Together, they had two sons, Kenneth and Kevin Powers.
Wanda had many adventures in life with her loving husband, Franklin. They owned their own cleaning business, drove 18-wheelers across the country, and spent much of their marriage pouring into the ministry.
The story of her boys' salvation brought the greatest joy to Wanda’s heart. She’d often tell the history of how late nights at the race tracks with her family turned into late nights at the church house with Jesus. Watching her sons become ministers, and her grandchildren follow in their footsteps made for a full life. Many knew her as “Grandma Wanda,” and beyond her love for Coca-Cola and hate for the cold weather, her greatest achievement was letting Jesus change her life forever while forever changing the lives around her for the Lord.
Wanda is preceded in death by husband, Franklin Powers; parents, Lloyd & Annie Reed; and granddaughter, Danielle Powers. Survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth D. & Laurie Powers, Wichita, and Kevin S. & Veronica Powers, Warren, AR; granddaughters & their spouses, Candice & D.J., Jenna, Alissa, Bethany, Katelyn & Jonathan, Andrea, and Abagail Powers; & great-grandchildren, Marie Romero, Kinsleigh & Aurora Brewies, Brielle Romero, Ezekiel, Everleigh, Eliana, & Emilio Dominguez, & Waylon Gandy.
