Virginia Montgomery

March 13, 1934 — August 15, 2019

Sue Mathews was born March 13, 1934 to Clifford Mathews and Julia Dillingham Mathews on a family farm near Douglas, Oklahoma. At the age of two, the family moved from a farm near Waukomis, Oklahoma, to a farm North of Cherokee, Oklahoma. At the age of four, she was blessed with a brother Don, who she loved to tease and protect. Sue attended grades 1-12 at Driftwood, Oklahoma, where she played all sports offered, and was blessed with the ability to always play on the first team, not taking into account that there wasn't much of a challenge with only a few players available. Sue graduated valedictorian of her class in 1952. Sue attended Enid Business college beginning September, 1952 through July, 1953. Graduating as Salutatorian 1953 after graduation, she was employed as a secretary for H.W. Wright, Attorney at Law in Cherokee, Oklahoma. She worked there one year, noting this was very interesting and educational work. Sue married David Eugene  (Gene) Montgomery September 4, 1954 and moved to Wichita, Kansas where Gene was employed at Boeing. After a couple weeks of nothing to do, and no friends, she was able to go to work in Outside Production at the Boeing Company. During her five years there, she progressed from a stenographer to buyers to secretary for the unit manager. Just a few months before quitting Boeing, a wonderful son, Monty Joe, was born November 22, 1959. She worked only a few months before quitting being a full time mother, something she enjoyed immensely. Always loving the farm and her family, she and Monty would go down to the farm in the summers to help with the wheat harvest. On July 30, 1965 another special addition, Daren, was born to Sue and Gene. Monty wanted the new addition to be a girl, so he wasn't even going to look at him. But Monty grew to be a great protector of Daren, and the family seemed complete. Every Summer, Sue and the boys, joined by Gene on weekends, would go back to the farm for harvest. In 1977, Sue began attending West Wichita Christian Women's Club, serving in many capacities beginning as Telephone Chairman and ending as Area Representative. Sue came to know her Lord and Savior at the age of 15, at the Methodist Church in Driftwood, Oklahoma. After moving to Wichita, she and Gene joined Immanuel Baptist Church, and in 2013 joined Country Acres Baptist Church. In 1992, Sue and Gene purchased a second home on Table Rock Lake by Shell Knob, MO. This was great fun for the entire family, as we all enjoyed the beauty and water sports. After all this fun became work, we sold out in 2014. Being preceded in death by her husband Gene, her son Daren, her father, Clifford, and mother, Julia, and many other relatives and friends. Sue is happy to meet HER GOD, HER LORD and SAVIOR and retire to Heaven with her heavenly loved ones. She is survived by her son, Monty and his wife, Traci of Wichita, KS and her brother, Don Leon Mathews and wife Cindy of Azle, TX and many nieces and nephews.
