Vera Schesser

Schesser, Vera K. (Laughlin), 93, passed away from her long life on October 20, 2018. Born on March 26, 1925 on a farm near Americus, Kansas she was a lifelong Kansas resident. She enjoyed a 46-year career as an elementary school teacher in Protection, Lawrence, and for 27 years as a first-grade teacher at Enterprise School in Wichita and was awarded the Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award from the Wichita Public Schools. A life-long learner, she received a teaching certificate from Emporia State University and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Friends University, and Wichita State University, respectively. She was married to Dale Q. Schesser for 61 years who preceded her in death in 2007. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her daughters, Sue Hammer (Richard), Chicago and Janet Shepherd (Donald), Wichita, 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 am on October 25, 2018 at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway, Wichita, preceded by visitation beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Americus Cemetery, Americus, Kansas.
