Varghese Varghese

Varghese, Varghese V., 78, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018. Visitation 6-8pm, Friday, October 12; Funeral Service 10am on Saturday, October 13 - both at Broadway Mortuary. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mariamma, daughters Sheelu and husband Ashok Surender, Shyni Varghese and husband Peter Rauske, and Ann Varghese; sisters, Susan Alexander and Rachel John, and his granddaughter, Alea Surender. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, C. G. and Susan Chacko.

Varghese, known to his family as Thankachen, immigrated to the United States in 1977 from Kerala, India, with only $8 in his pocket and a daughter on each arm. He and Mariamma were reunited in Wichita, added their youngest daughter to the family, and started working toward their American dream. Over the next 40 years, through hard work and sacrifice, with struggles and setbacks, but also joy and laughter, he and Mariamma ensured that each of their daughters had the education and opportunities they did not. Along the way, he was further blessed with his cherished granddaughter, two wonderful sons-in-law, and three adoring grand-dogs. Precious Dexter is keeping him company in heaven for now. A man of quiet strength, Varghese was and will always be our beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
