Thomas Michael Barton

Thomas Michael Barton, 81, died October 7, 2024. Mike was the eldest of 3, born to Clell Barton and Dorothy Jane Armendariz on August 16, 1943 in Topeka, KS. He was part of the first graduating class at Campus High School in Haysville, KS, in 1961. He later attended Washburn University in Topeka, KS.

Mike served in the United States Army from 1964-1967 during the Vietnam War as an E5 Clerical Specialist. His passion for service led him to become a 32nd Degree Master Mason and then a Midian Shriner. He was active in both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving other veterans and enjoying the company of those who served. Mike worked at the American Legion through the VA as a Veteran's Service Rep., helping veterans get the help they so deserved. 

Mike was a lover of great food, good people, and travel. He loved his family and friends and looked forward to special occasions for the family to be together. He was preceded in death by his father, Clell Barton of Wichita, KS; mother, Jane Malone of Little Rock, AR; and sister-in-law, Shirley Barton of Wichita, KS. He is survived by his daughter, Jamie Barton of Augusta, KS; brother, Lawrence Mark Barton of Wichita,KS; sister, Janice (Daniel) Drew of Gibson, AR; niece, Holly McCord of Vilonia AR; and niece, Laurel (Dave) Mills of Beebe, AR; numerous great-nieces, nephews, and friends. Mike, 'Black Bart' will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, October 18, at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway. Share condolences at www.cozine.com.
