Terry Dean Brewster lost his battle with brain cancer on August 30, 2017 after a brave fight. The Rosary will take place at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 2701 S. Pattie, Wichita, Kansas, on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. with burial service to follow at Waco Cemetery, Waco Township. He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Pauline Brewster. Terry was born June 25, 1948 in Wichita, Kansas. He attended Haysville schools and was fond of saying he was a “Campus High Colt” when teasing his grandchildren. In 1970 he married the love of his life, Sandy, immediately becoming a father of three to Jerry, Gina and Kelly to whom he loved unconditionally until he breathed his last breathe. 1972 brought the birth of Kristin and the family was complete, well, except for Kelly’s assortment of weird pets and Sandy’s endless cats which Terry tolerated but seldom would say he loved! 1977 was a big year for them. Jerry left home to be on his own, Terry formally adopted Gina and Kelly so they could be “real Brewster’s” and Terry purchased the hearing aid business he had been working in since 1971 from his parents. At the time of the purchase, there was only one office, 1930 S. Broadway. Through much determination, hard work and forward thinking, Terry and Sandy have grown Midwest Hearing Aids from one location to forty office locations across the state of Kansas while encompassing a group of employees they call and treat as family. Throughout his career, Terry has been active in his state and community organizations serving as past Chairman of the Kansas Licensing Board for Hearing Examiners, past President Kansas Hearing Association, The Salvation Army Executive Committee Board and was a current member of the National Baseball Congress (NBC) Board of Directors. Terry had three passions in life: his family, helping the hearing impaired and slo-pitch softball. He was Athletic Director for St. Margaret Mary School when Gina, Kelly and Kristin were growing up and attending there. He was heavily involved in the youth wrestling scene from the time Kelly started at the age of seven until he graduated from Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School. He and Sandy could be found in the bleachers at Marion High, El Dorado High, CCA or Trinity watching their grandchildren’s activities or even later watching Andy, Jacob, and Alex as they played their sport around the state. Terry sponsored, coached and played slo-pitch softball until his cancer doctor said no more. Even then that did not stop him traveling with the team. The Midwest Hearing Softball Team is and was well known in softball circles as a team to be reckoned with. Terry was inducted into the USSSA Kansas Softball Hall of Fame in 2015. Terry is survived by his loving wife Saundra (Sandy), daughters, Gina Perry (Mark) and Kristin Bearup (Warren), sons, Jerry Burns (Rebecca) and Kelly Brewster all of Wichita, grandchildren Andrew and Cody Shipman, Jacob Seachris and Alexandria Bearup all of Wichita and Garrett Brewster (Hannah) of Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California. Three brothers Dennis (Alice), Rob (Teri), Ron (Kay) and sister, Debbie Emerson (Rick) all of Wichita plus numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was loved by Many and will be greatly missed! In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dear Neighbors Ministries, 1329 S. Bluffview, Wichita, KS 67218 or to St. Margaret Mary Church, 2701 S. Pattie, Wichita, KS 67216, in Terry’s name. Share condolences at www.CozineMemorial.com. Services by Broadway Mortuary.
