Steven E. Grantstein entered Heaven on September 10, 2016. He is survived by wife, Jeanette; daughter Abigail Howard and son-in-law, Lucas Howard; son Andrew, daughter-in-law Kathleen, granddaughters Evangeline and Bonnie; brother George; and sister Donna. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Flora, and his sister Patricia.
Steve was born September 14, 1952, in Greenville, SC. Raised in Opa-locka, FL, Steve attended Miami Carol City High School graduating in 1971. He attended Bethel College in North Newton, KS, where he met Jeanette, and earned a Bachelor of Science in 1975.
For almost 30 years, Steve worked as a nuclear technologist for Galichia Medical Group and Galichia Heart Hospital where he was a favorite of his co-workers and patients. First in the central United States to be board certified in nuclear technology, he was a pioneer in the field of nuclear cardiology in Kansas. Notably, he was the first to perform many heart studies including gated SPECT, gated planar with ejection fraction and pharmaceutical nuclear heart studies.
Loving Jesus, the Jewish people and the land of Israel, Steve's faith and Jewish heritage were very important to him. A long-time member of Central Christian Church, Steve was a founding member of the former Remnant of Israel, now L'Chaim B'Yeshua Messianic Congregation and Synagogue.
Steve was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2014. After being declared cancer-free in 2015, he showed his gratitude to Victory in the Valley, an organization that provided him much comfort and support during his treatments, by volunteering to assist other cancer patients. Throughout his many health issues and complications, he always maintained a positive, fighting attitude.
Steve loved everyone freely; his love for Jeanette, Abigail and Andrew was unconditional and self-sacrificing. His granddaughters and beloved dog Toto were the apples of his eye. He was quick to express how much he loved and how proud he was of everyone, especially his children. He will be remembered for his laugh, jokes, the twinkle in his eye, his love of good food, hot sauce, traveling, skiing, fishing, the sound of the ocean, the Notre Dame fight song and cheering the Ohio State Buckeyes, Kansas Jayhawks and Miami Dolphins.
A visitation will be 6:30-8:00 pm, Thursday at Broadway Mortuary. A Memorial Service will be 1:00 pm, Friday at Central Christian Church. Memorials to Bethel College, Victory in the Valley or L’Chaim B’Yeshua.
