Shirley M. Sheridan, 80, of Derby, Kansas, passed away on September 29, 2021, after a brief illness. Shirley was an accomplished artist, a dedicated nurse, and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Shirley was born in Hoxie, Kansas, on November 24, 1940, and lived the majority of her life in Derby. She retired from nursing in 1995 after spending over 20 years as a Registered Nurse and Critical Care Surgical ICU nurse at St. Francis Regional Medical Center. Her retirement was spent pursuing her passions of caring for her family and painting as much as she could. Shirley was an avid painter, winning numerous awards, and her work may be found in many private collections around the Derby and Wichita area. Shirley was a long-time member of SouthRock Christian Church and recently joined the membership of University Congregational Church. Shirley was also a proud member of the Kansas Art Guild. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Sheridan, her parents, Floyd and Nona Turner, her sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Donald McMillan, and her first grandson, Jonah Gates. She is survived by her children, Valerie Horn (Alan) and Paul Ellis Jackson (Duane) of Wichita, Teresa Cordell (Michael) of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Joshua Garrett (Chana) of Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Natasha, Cody, Mattie, Ellie, Annabelle, Ava Raye, Turner, and Tobias, and five great-grandchildren, Timothy, Chloee, Wyatt, Emma, and Charlotte. She is also survived by her nieces Amanda Smith and Krista Craven. Lastly, Shirley is also survived by her beloved, furry companion of many years, Beauty. A visitation with family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, October 4, at Broadway Mortuary. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 5, at 1:00 PM at University Congregational Church, 9209 E. 29th Wichita, Kansas, 67220. Interment will take place at a later date at El Paso Cemetery in Derby, Kansas. A memorial has been established with the Kansas Art Guild.
