Shirley Haley

October 7, 1934 — March 5, 2019

Haley, Shirley , 84, loving mother, grandmother and friend, died March 5, 2019. She was born to the late Hilary and Ruth Hawkins of Axtell, Kansas. Shirley was raised on a farm and was active in 4-H and the Methodist Church. She moved to Topeka, Kansas after graduating from high school. Shirley attended business school and later married Jim Haley. They owned a gift store and print shop for several years in Derby, Kansas. Shirley moved back to Topeka and eventually began her manufacturer's representative business selling gifts and jewelry in a four state territory. She had a permanent showroom in the Kansas City Gift Mart. Shirley became very active in her church singles group and the friends she met there remained her core group of friends for the last 40+ years of her life. She enjoyed dancing, boating, traveling, card games with friends and family and was fearless when it came to trying new adventures. Shirley is survived by her children, Sharie (Bill) Quattlebaum, Steve (Joy) Haley and Rod (Tammy) Haley, all of Wichita; brother, Richard (Norma) Hawkins of Charleston, SC; eleven grandchildren: Shauna Dickman (Eric) of Wichita, Brandon Haley (Leah) of Florida, Chris Haley of Florida, Alexis Haley of Maryland, Jordan Haley of Lawrence, KS, Matthew Haley (Kaitlin Grimes) and Jamie Quattlebaum, both of Wichita, David Duncan of Washington, Drew Hallaux, Tyler Traffas (Kaitlyn) and Amber Traffas, all of Wichita; six great-grandchildren: Caleb Dickman (Devin) of Mississippi, Alyssa Dickman (Devin Gillihan), Jacob Dickman, Ashton Haley, Jamie Quattlebaum and Nathan Traffas, all of Wichita; and one great-great-granddaughter, Lillie Gillihan of Wichita. Shirley also had several cousins and a nephew, Rick Hawkins of North Carolina and niece Cheryl Steadman (Paul) of South Carolina. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Pathway Church.
