Shelly Jo (Warren) Lunsford, 67, passed away on July 12, 2024 in Wichita, Ks. She was born on April 18, 1957 in Chanute, Ks to Fred and Dorothy (Stallard) Warren. The family moved to Kansas City where she attended Nieman Grade School and Trailridge Middle School. They moved to McPherson, Ks in 1968 where she attended McPherson Middle School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1975. She attended Hutchinson Community College for one year. Moving to Medicine Lodge, Ks in 1977, she met Donald Franklin Lunsford. The couple were married on January 21, 1978. Making their home in Medicine Lodge, they raised three sons: Scott Franklin, Bradley Joel, and Jeffrey Warren. In 1998, she decided to go back to college, graduating from Pratt Community College in 2001 with a degree in Nursing. She began her nursing career at Wichita Riverside Hospital and later worked at Wesley Medical Center. After Wesley, she decided to care for the elderly and became the director of Homestead Assisted Living of Wichita for three years. In 2009, she purchased a house and opened Compassionate Care West, a Homes Plus Assisted Living facility, where she was the caregiver for many residents, and became close friends with the resident's and their families over the years.
In 2020, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and fought hard until her death.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothy Warren.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Franklin Lunsford of the home, three sons; Scott (Shannon) Lunsford of Wichita, Bradley (Stacey) Lunsford of Hesston, Ks, Jeffrey Lunsford of Wichita, one brother, Mike (Chris Dillon) Warren of Shawnee Mission, Ks, two sisters; Terry (Rick) Swender of Park City, Ks, and Patty (Grover) Downing of Fort Worth, Tx, sister in law; Carrol Warren of Wichita, two grandchildren; Coyce and Bristol Lunsford of Hesston, Ks; a host of nieces, nephews, and many dear friends and employees from Compassionate Care West.
A celebration of life reception will be from 10:30-12:30, on July 23, 2024, at the Cozine Life Events Center. Remarks will begin at 11:00am. Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society, PO Box 171335, Kansas City, KS 66117; and Phoenix Hospice, 3450 N. Rock Rd, Bldg 200, Ste 213, Wichita, KS 67226.
