Ruth Elsie Cunningham, 92, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024. No local services will be held in Wichita. Ruth will be placed to rest at Fort Sam Houston cemetery with her husband Jack. Ruth was born November 4, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from Bay Ridge High School, in Brooklyn and a few years later married John (Jack) Cunningham on July 4, 1952. They celebrated 70 years of marriage. They left Brooklyn and moved to Wichita Falls, when Jack enlisted in the US Air Force, for training in aircraft maintenance. Afterwards, the Air Force transferred them overseas to Germany and then to France. Ruth and Jack returned to the United States for a short time in Maine, and their last transfer to San Antonio, Texas became their home for 56 years. As time went on Ruth and Jack later moved to Wichita, Kansas, finishing their remaining years near their daughter, Bonnie. Ruth had great faith in the Lord and found peace and comfort talking to Him every day. She loved sharing in her grandchildren's lives and making them a priority. Ruth enjoyed many hobbies including sewing and quilting, lifetime membership in the Scottish Society of San Antonio, water aerobics, reading, crossword puzzles, scrabble, bingo, and many varieties of card games. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John Andrew Cunningham; parents, Ivar and Cecilia Gabrielsen; brother, Norman Gabrielsen; and sister, Helen Giannusa. Survivors include her children, Russell Cunningham (Cindy) Bruce Cunningham and Bonnie Cohen (Peter), brother, Lloyd Gabrielsen; 6 grandchildren, (Taylor, Carson, Alaina, Blair, Grant, and Carter) and 4 great-grandchildren.
