Roberta "Bertie" Kay (Farney) Reimschisel was welcomed into her eternal heavenly home on December 6, 2024 in Wichita, KS at the age of 83 years. Bertie was born in Wichita, KS to Harvey Farney and Anne (Oesch) Farney on August 20, 1941. She graduated from Derby High School and then studied at Friends University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics at Bern High school until she moved to Peoria, IL area to attend Illinois State University where she earned her Master’s degree in Textiles and Pattern. She was a textiles professor at the university for a time and then worked in a business office until she married Roger Reimschisel on June 15, 1980. The couple then moved to Andover, KS where she was the Office Administrator at Farney Chiropractic in Andover for the next 37 years.
Bertie was preceded in death by her husband, Roger of Andover, her parents Harvey and Anne Farney of Wichita, two brothers, Jerry Farney of Perryton, TX and Larry Farney of Wichita, KS. She is survived by two sisters, Karlene Young of Valley Center, KS and Judy Reimschisel of Bel Aire, KS, and one brother, Terry Farney of Valley Center, KS. She is also survived by the in-laws of her family: Donna (Lusk) Farney of Perryton, TX, Jackie (Bowers) Farney of Wichita, KS, Max Reimschisel of Bel Aire, KS and Mary (Meyer) Farney of Augusta, KS. Bertie is survived by three generations of many nieces and nephews. Bertie and Roger did not have any children. Bertie considered all of her nieces and nephews her honorary children and grandchildren.
Bertie was baptized at the Apostolic Christian Church in Wichita, KS in 1957. Through the years she also worshipped at First Evangelical Free and New Spring church. She served as a group leader and later in an administrative position with Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She loved her Lord Jesus wholeheartedly and depended on Him through her life’s challenges. Bertie had polio when she was a very young child. Through her childhood and into her teen-aged years she endured 17 orthopedic surgeries that attempted to counteract the damage her body suffered from the disease. She had to wear many different casts for lengthy periods of time following those surgeries. Some of Bertie's interests and hobbies were sewing, reading, studying the Bible, organizing her beloved photo albums, spending time with family and plotting pranks.
The family was very cautious about eating any cookies that Bertie would bring to the gatherings. Some were laced with lamb pellets and who knows what other unique items may have been added to the cookie dough. She named herself Hilda P. Higginbotham, the 3rd -- perpetrator of superfluity of naughtiness. Everything with Bertie was an adventure and so much fun. The first generation of nieces and nephews had fun playing with her crutches and the later generations were treated to rides on her electric carts as she whizzed them down the hallways. There was always an abundance of candy or sweets for them also. When you would see her at gatherings, she was either smooching someone or holding a baby in her arms. She loved kids even to the end. They were her preference and caught her attention the most. She was a huge blessing to everyone and cared deeply. She was strong and determined conquering challenges and achieving goals. She was a classy lady who loved to wear her pearls. Her antics and jokes made everyone laugh and smile. She loved well, laughed often and lived life to the full. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Her greatest desire would be that you would know Her Savior Jesus Christ as she did.
