Murphy, Phillip, 69, retired, was called home suddenly by the Lord on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa and served as Human Resource Director for the city of Sioux City for over 22 years. He then was an employee with the Wichita Human Resources Department for 14 years until his retirement. He attended Central Christian Church faithfully and volunteered in the international ministry there. Phil gladly offered his help in many capacities and was a loyal, absolutely dependable friend. He will be remembered for his quiet manner, always supporting his team members steadfastly while remaining in the background. He also served as a volunteer for the past three years on the finance and fundraising committees for WIN (an organization representing Wichita neighborhoods and serving the communities in various ways). He represented WIN before the city council, attending neighborhood meetings to solve conflicts and to educate. He was well liked and respected by all. He also was actively involved with efforts to keep gambling out of Kansas. He is survived by his wife Michiko and sons, Jason and Kerry, all of Wichita, and a granddaughter, Destiny, of Missouri. He leaves two sisters, Alta of Iowa and Aggie of Arizona as well as his two nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband, and a caring father and grandfather, brother and uncle. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at Broadway Mortuary. Charitable contributions to Central Christian Church-Missions are requested in lieu of flowers.
