Mom's Tribute
Our mom, Penny K. Main, passed away on March 3, 2025, due to congestive heart failure. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, on January 21, 1941. As the eldest of three daughters, she was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Tuell and Dorothy Foraker, along with her husband of 60 years, Dennis.
Her three adult children survive Penny: Denice (Tim) Kuhns of Wichita, Jeff (Jean) Main of La Crescent, MN, and Darla (Randy) Schaller of Goddard. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Stacy Kuhns, Nicole Kuhns, Tim Kuhns, Andy (Victoria) Main, Jamie (Eric) Whetmore; Mandy (Brandon) Kupper, Kaitlyn (Brian) Henry, Kyle Schaller, Elijah Schaller, Grace Schaller; Katie Belanger (John Ketterhagen), Margo (Nick) Rossi, 10 great-grandchildren, two sisters-Carole Tinkler (Jerry) of Wichita and Bonnie Bridges (Bob) of Shawnee-a half-sister, Lola Powell (Mike) of Alabama, and two half-brothers, Larry Tuell (Elsie) of Pennsylvania and Randy (Patty) Tuell of California.
Penny was married at the very young age of 16 to Dennis A. Main, who was then 18! They were married in July 1957 and grew up quickly! At the time of her marriage, she hadn't even learned to drive a car yet! She didn't actually learn to drive until she was in her 20s. By the age of 22, Mom was a mother of 3 children! Our Dad began his first business, Main Electronics, in 1964, and Mom joined him as the bookkeeper/accountant. They also purchased Amateur Radio Supply on East Douglas, which they later sold. She worked alongside Dad until the end of Main Electronics in 1983. They later opened an American Speedy Printing in East Wichita, which, again, Mom organized, managed, and maintained for 12 years. Mom was my Dad's greatest asset, friend, confidant, love, business partner, advisor, financial manager, and secret special ingredient. She was the counter-balance, that second opinion, that soft voice of reason, that voice of support and encouragement to continue the race. She did not claim the spotlight, ever, but quietly kept them afloat.
Mom also managed Superior School Supply in West Wichita for many years. In 2004, she started overseeing the accounting at Tree House Learning Center, which is owned by her daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Randy. By far, this was her favorite position, and she stayed there until she retired in 2022.
Penny enjoyed various hobbies, including sewing clothes when her children were young, ceramics, gardening, acrylic painting, attending Bible studies, volunteering, baking, and reading. Her family was her pride and joy, and she loved spending time with all of them or just a few at a time!
Mom's dedication to Jesus as her Lord and Savior fueled her spirit. She felt her greatest joy when she engaged with a church that supported her faith, as Ridgepoint did since she joined in 2021.
Memorial donations can be made to the non-profit Gifted Hands Peru, which supports Penny's granddaughter's missionary work in Peru. Make checks payable to Ridgepoint Church.
