Peggy J. Dewey

Peggy Joan Dewey was born on June 5, 1937 to Elvin “Tommy” and Martha Meeks in Tipton County, IN.  She grew up on the farm and had lots of stories of helping her dad.  

Peggy “crossed over Jordan into the Promised Land” on August 21, 2023, at the age of 86. She attended Frankfort Pilgrim Academy until her parents moved the family to Yakima, WA and she graduated from Yakima East High School in 1955. 

She met and married Bobby Duaine Dewey on July 2nd of that year in Yakima.  They have four children: Daniel (Lauri) Dewey of David City, NE;Debbie (Daniel) Wilson of Greeleyville, SC; Duaine (Dawnette) Dewey of Douglass, KS; and Diana (Patrick) McClintock of Midwest City, OK.  She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers Robert and Rev. Larry “Ed” Meeks, and grandson Matthew Niemeyer.  

She was taught at an early age to love the Lord. Although there had been many physical and emotional battles in her life she clung to the wisdom and love of God to get her through. 

Although Peggy’s lived and worked at many places in WA, AZ, GA, IN, and KS as a bookkeeper or office manager and held various positions within the aircraft industry, she especially loved the pilots she knew and the experiences she had as a flight test coordinator at Bombardier Learjet in Wichita, KS.  She retired from Learjet in October of 2001 and moved to Indianapolis, IN to take care of her dad.  Later she returned to Wichita and finally retired to live with daughter Debbie in SC. Feeling her home was in Kansas, she returned to live with her son Duaine in Douglass for the past 10 years. 

Peggy shared her time between children, traveling yearly to see her son Dan during the summer months where he loved to take Peggy camping. In the winter she visited daughter Debbie with whom she took 5 cruises to various locations which she loved. Her favorite was Belize.

Peggy is survived by her children, 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, her sister, Margie (Dr. John) Connor, Brenda (Rev. Daniel) Boone, Rev. Richard (Crystal) Meeks, and sisters-in law, Mary Ann (Larry) Meeks and Thelma (Bob Meeks) Moyer, and several nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
