Pearl Miller

Pearl Elizabeth (Hubbard) Miller passed from this life at 12:28 PM on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Homestead Health Center in Wichita, KS. She was born October 11, 1926 in Erie, KS to Mark Warwick and Rose Belle (Cox) Hubbard. She attended schools in Erie, KS, Labette County Community College and Wichita State University.

She was married to Charles Augustus Miller on April 23, 1944 in Oklahoma. They were divorced in 1958. He preceded her in death in 1976. After marriage, they resided in Parsons, KS where Pearl was a homemaker and mother of 3 children. After the divorce, Pearl worked as a waitress and attended Labette County Community College graduating at the same time her oldest daughter graduated from High School in 1962. She moved the family to Neodesha, KS where she worked for the State as a Social Worker and in 1969 she transferred and moved to Wichita, KS, continuing her education at Wichita State University and her career at SRS. Since retirement, she kept busy with volunteer work at the South Central Shepherd Center, Church Activities and anywhere else she could help. Pearl’s hobbies included quilting, reading, genealogy, and playing games with her family. She was an active member of the Linwood Church of the Nazarene and later the new and renamed Woodland Lakes Church, while living in Wichita.

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Joy Combs, and Penny Sue (Marty) Marshall) of Wichita; grandson, Brent Nixon Stephens of Kansas City, MO; granddaughters, Jayne Elizabeth (Elvin) Leedy of Mulvane, KS, Shae Ryan (Dickie) Kirkhart and Lauren Niclole Angle Marshall; great-grandkids, Miranda, Tyler, Austin, Emily, Emery, Brendan, Gracie, Camdan, Caydan, Landan, Haydan, Ryker, Michael, Kyle, and Maddie and 2 great-great grandsons and 1 on the way.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Kay Gardiner; one sister, Elsie Marie Ward; one brother, Richard Lee Hubbard; seven half-brothers, Harley Cox and Fred, Ralph, Glen, Roy, Raymond, and Donald Hubbard; two half-sisters: Stella (Hubbard) Traubel and Daisy Hubbard; and two sons-in-law, James Paul Combs and Donald Gardiner.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Sunday, July 2nd at Broadway Mortuary with Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 3rd at Woodland Lakes Community Church with Steve Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Goddard, KS. Memorials are suggested to the Woodland Lakes Community Church in Wichita, KS.
