Paul Calkins

Calkins, Paul, 85, formerly of Gordon, NE, currently of Bel Aire, KS, passed away on August 10, 2017. Paul was born on February 21, 1932 in Sidney, NE to Ralph and Anna Merle Calkins (Van Fleet). He attended Hay Springs schools and joined the Navy in November of 1950. Paul was stationed in Japan during the Korean War on the USS Jason and was honorably discharged in August of 1954. Upon returning, he was united in marriage to Paula Marie Rittscher on September 25, 1954. They had two children, Jeanne and John. Paul spent the majority of his life in Gordon, involved in several entrepreneurial ventures: Paul and Ed’s Heating and Air Conditioning, Ranching, Custom Hay Hauling and in his retirement years working at Gordon Auto. Paul loved a good steak, Lucchese boots, Bull Riding and antiquing. Paul is survived by his wife of 62 years, Paula; daughter, Jeanne Quinn (Kirby) of Wichita, KS; son, John Calkins (Guadalupe) of Altadena, CA; sister, Joyce Winter of Gordon, NE; grandsons, Wiley of Altadena, CA and Kirby Quinn III (Kara) of Garden Plain, KS; 3 great-grandchildren, Kaylem, Karson and Kirby IV. His parents, Ralph Calkins and Anna Kutschera preceded Paul in death. Services will be in Gordon, NE at a time to be determined. Share condolences at www.CozineMemorial.com.
