Monroe Jacob Dalke was born March 6, 1939 on the home place of Jacob E. and Edna F (Klein) Dalke, Hillsboro, Ks. He joined his older brother Lloyd and later was joined by younger sister, Joyce. He graduated from Hillsboro High School. He attended Gnadenau Krimmer Mennonite Brethren Church. He accepted Christ as a young boy and was baptized in Schleihuver Lake. To further his education Monroe attended school at Friend’s University and graduated from Wichita State University with a Degree in Accounting. His first employment was with Fruhauf Uniform Company in Wichita, as an accountant. He married Kay Heisel on September 26, 1964. In 1972 the couple moved to San Francisco when Monroe accepted an accounting job. He worked for several different hospitals in accounting there for 24 years. Monroe came back to Wichita and made a home for himself. He found the library a place to learn how to use the computer. Monroe would then work on becoming computer literate. He used this new talent to further His hobby, collecting antiques, and vintage cars. In fact, a 1950’s Pink Mercury began his love of vintage cars during college. His love of music extended to his joining the 300 men’s voices of the Kansas Mennonite Men’s Chorus. Their motto is “we sing that others may live.” That’s because offerings taken at KMMC concerts are donated to the Mennonite Central Committee, one of the most efficient and effective relief and development charities around. For about 5 years Monroe took pleasure in singing, camaraderie and helping others. To that end, Monroe even volunteered with a group to help can meat at the Mennonite Central Committee plant in Newton, Ks. Being a vegetarian, this was going to be quite a sacrifice. Was he going to be able to do the job to help send food around the world or he worried, would he become sick? But Monroe was willing. He found that he was taken to the labeling room to put the labels on the cans after they had been sealed. God is so good! Monroe felt fulfilled in his spiritual life at 1st Mennonite Brethren Church in Wichita with the messages and music. Afterwards, he would attend 1st Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed their organ, choir, and messages. After an illness, Monroe Dalke passed away on Saturday, September 10th, 2016. He was preceded in death by Kay Heisel Dalke, his parents, Jacob and Edna Dalke, his nephew Nathan Livengood. He is survived by brother Lloyd Dalke and sister Joyce Livengood, as well as a number of cousins and friends. Both Lloyd and Joyce wish to Thank everyone for all the love and kindness that are being shown to them as well as all the ministers that have helped them thru this traumatic time.
