Our dear mother passed away peacefully at home March 2, 2024. We had the
honor of celebrating 100 years, 4 months and 8 days of her life and love. Born in Kechi,
she was a proud lifetime resident of Kansas.
Armetta was a graduate of Valley Center High School and Kansas State
University, where she was an active member of Kappa Delta sorority. She participated
(along with her children) in 4-H and was a sought-after Judge at 4-H fairs throughout the
state. She took pride in her agricultural upbringing, was a life-long gardener and animal
lover. She was also an expert seamstress plus a wonderful cook and baker.
The constant thread throughout her life was the training and education of young
people. This led her to a 40 year teaching career in Wichita public school system.
Armetta was also a 40+ year member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and served on a
variety of committees within the church into her early 90’s.
As a 62-year resident of the Riverview neighborhood, Armetta took great pride in
her yard & garden. She could be found doing something outdoors in almost any season.
Mom continued to mow her own yard through her 95 th summer.
She raised four kids as a single parent during the 1960’s & 70’s and could fix just
about any problem with a screwdriver, butcher knife, bailing wire and/or a hammer plus
her sly sense of humor. Her belief in herself and her skills, along with her fiercely
independent spirit, served us all well. There is no doubt that raising four children as a
single parent was a test of her unlimited love and patience. Her greatest joy came from
celebrating family events – both large and small.
Armetta is preceded in death by her parents Victor and Bly (Ocker) Lygrisse, her
brother Eugene “Gene” Lygrisse, and her son Bart Watson. Survivors include son Blair
Watson (Penelope); son Brad Watson (Marcia); daughter Blythe Cammy (Neal);
grandsons Dillon, Kohl and Riley Watson; granddaughters Amelia & Erica Cammy;
sister-in-law Betty Lygrisse.
A celebration of life service at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2258 N Marigold Lane,
Wichita, will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday March 30, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to:
