Michael Riley

August 3, 1948 — July 28, 2016

Michael E. Riley, "Mike" was born August 3, 1948 in Ohio. He was the son of Nina & Dick Riley, and had one sister, Patty, all preceding him in death. Since 2001, Mike has worked with a Non-profit organization, Home Technology Solutions, Inc. as a customer service representative working with people to ensure their safety within their homes with the Lifeline service. Of the hundreds of thousands of people Mike has spoken with, he always took the time to learn of their lives, listen to their stories, and, yes, wiped many tears as he heard their life journeys. The consistent theme in Mike's working career was his sense of caring about people. He worked in the auto parts industry, again ensuring people had what they needed for their vehicles. He volunteered for many years with the Township 12 Volunteer Fire Department in Pratt County, again, helping people. Mike was known for providing whatever people needed to stay in their homes. While installing Lifeline equipment, he always did more... changed light bulbs, hung pictures, helped their animals, brought in mail for them, moved trash carts to the street or back to the house so they didn't have to go out in the Kansas elements, brought in groceries from vehicles and actually put them in the cabinet, once even delivered onions to a customer because they were needed for dressing for Thanksgiving. He just made it his "hobby" to help others! He loved cars. If there was ever a question about what to do with a vehicle, Mike knew where to go or who to call. He loved all cars, but, we think his most favorite were the 50's year models. He loved driving and showing his cars. He had an eye for detail and design. He won many trophies and even had his cars featured in several Hot Rod magazines. As much as he loved his cars, his family was loved above all. He loved and shared his pride in them often. He "griped" about having to go to grandchildren's activities, but, was quick to beam with pride about their accomplishments after attending those events... "I hate to give up a whole day for an hour or so of performance, a recital, or a school play, but, after seeing how good those kids are, and what they can do, I loved every minute of being therea"those are MY grandkids"! Most likely he did so with that smile only Grandpa Mike had... .ornery, yet filled with so much love. His Grandchildren were the apple of his eye! Right up there as loves in his life, Mike was a die hard "Ohio State Buckeye". It could be true, he may have had a direct line to Urban Meyer. He loved those Buckeyes, and spent Saturdays glued to college football. He loved discussing with his Ohio friends the games, and, as a lot of football fans can do, remembered each and every down played in a game. He loved following the college recruiting, and was quick to tell of the great class coming into Ohio State. Buckeyes may not have Mike "coaching" this year from earth, but, watch-out Heaven, because the 2016-2017 season is only days away from starting, and he WILL be ready! Mike is survived by his son, Paul and daughter-in-law, Lara; their children, Jonah, Ethan and Heidi and daughter, Janine Riley and granddaughter, Alysse Riley, an Aunt, Jean Grey, Cousin, Mark Grey as well as many co-workers and friends. In lieu of flowers, Mike and his family prefer donations in his memory sent to: St. Jude's Children's Hospital again demonstrating his caring attitude toward people. Visitation with the family will be on August 2, from 6-8 pm, and a service of celebrating Mike's life will be held on his birthday, Wednesday, August 3 at 10:30 am, both at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway. Please share condolences at www.CozineMemorial.com .
