Mark L. Thompson, 66, died January 15, 2022. He was born to Willard B. and Jane (Floyd) Thompson in Honolulu, Hawaii while his father was stationed in the Navy. After attending Southeast High School in Wichita, he received a bachelor’s degree in Business from Friends University. Mark was Sales Manager for Ponca Products, enjoying a long and prosperous career of 40 years.
Mark married Wendy (Langenwalter) Millsap in 1996, and son James was born in 1997, a blessed addition of a brother to Wendy's two sons, Matt & Dan.
Mark was dedicated about giving back to his hometown. He was a member of the Rotary Club, and he and his father enjoyed reading with young children in the “Reading is Fundamental" program at Adams Elementary. As a R.I.F. leader, Mark was responsible for recruiting numerous volunteer readers for the various classrooms. It was important to help his community; Mark loved Wichita!
He was passionate about fishing. Fresh lake fishing, fly fishing, and deep-sea fishing…he enjoyed them all with gusto. Mark also loved spending time with his son, James, his friends, and his own long-time friends at the family farms in Cunningham and Sedan, KS. Whether duck hunting or shooting skeet, he embraced being out in nature with those he loved. Mark and his family enjoyed numerous fishing and skiing trips to Colorado and deep-sea fishing trips to Florida, the memories of which provide great comfort and joy. Another love was sports; he could reel off every player and position, and statistic on the rosters of Wichita State, K.U., K-State, and the K.C. Chiefs.
Anyone who knew Mark, would say that he is one of the nicest guys you would ever want to meet. He was always there for his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Floyd Thompson. Mark is survived by his son, James Thompson; father, Bill Thompson (Barbara); brothers, Brooks (Polly) and David (Patrice); nephews, Will Thompson and Brooks Thompson, and stepsons, Matt Millsap (Theresa) and Dan Millsap (Anne) and their son, Charlie.
