Mark Richard “Dick” Carter, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away June 14, 2016 at 2:45am, at the V.A. Hospice Unit with his family at his side. He was born in Cutler, Indiana to the late Mark Henry and Mary Catherine (Bordner) Carter on June 26, 1932. On June 20, 1954, he was married to Julia L. Shanks in Flora, Indiana. Mark was a retired Aeronautical Engineer, graduating from Purdue University and worked for Beech and Gulfstream for forty years. He served in the Korean War for two years. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Julia; son, Mark Douglas (Angie) Carter of Moore, OK; daughter, Janice Dean of Wichita, KS; five grandchildren; one step-grandson; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandsons; and one great-grandchild on the way in September; sister, Libby Sparks of Flora, Indiana; many nieces, nephews, and friends. His love of life was his family, golfing, building and flying his model airplanes with the Wichihawks Control Line Airplane Club, playing bridge, watching sports on TV, cooking, fishing, and his church. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm, Saturday, June 18, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 5002 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67208. Graveside services will held at a later date at Ball Hill Cemetery in Cutler, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Steamers Sunday School Class in c/o Grace Presbyterian Church.
