Lois Jean Brane (Hutton), 93, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, aunt and friend, born 14 June 1931, passed into eternal life, 11 March 2025.
Lois was born in Emporia, KS to George Edward “Ed” and Grace Arlene Hutton. She moved to Wichita, KS in September 1944 and attended Willard elementary, Roosevelt middle school and graduated from East high school in 1949. She attended WSU for 1 year and was involved in a sorority. She lived most of her life in Wichita, KS but did live in Mukilteo, WA for approximately 8 years during her 70s.
As a youth, Lois loved riding her bike to visit her grandparents’ farm to tend and ride horses.
Lois married Gene Brane on 29 December 1950 and was married 44 years. Together they welcomed 2 boys (Dan and Ken). Her family expanded to 5 grandkids and 7 great-grandkids.
Lois was primarily a homemaker in which she took great pride. However, she did work for Beech, Southwest Paper, Census Bureau, Geology Department at WSU and other part-time jobs.
Hobbies included continuing her father’s coin collection, stamp collecting, cooking, reading, traveling, camping, boating, fishing, 20 years of genealogy, attending her son’s many sporting events, and always a ready Food Bank volunteer. Her favorite outdoor activity was fishing. There were many trips to Waconda Reservoir in north central Kansas to catch walleye, white bass, and crappie. There were also many trips to the Colorado Rockies to trout fish, camp, jeep, and explore old mining towns.
One of her many travel highlights was her 6-week road trip to Alaska with husband, Gene.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, George Edward and Grace Arlene Hutton; brother, George Edward Hutton, Jr. She is survived by her sons, Dan (Susie) Brane, Ken (Kelly) Brane; grandkids, Matt (Raegan) Brane, Stephanie (Brian) O’Mara, Austin (Jennie) Brane, Sienna Brane, and Milana Brane; and 7 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Claire, Kathryn, Fisher, Caroline, Maggie and Wyatt.
