Lee Spalding, beloved husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 7, 2017 at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Gertrude, and brother Wilbur. He is survived by his wife of 67 years and best friend, Jean of Wichita, brother Kenneth of Granite City, IL, daughters: Rhonda (Jeff) Turner of Wichita, Deanna Buford of Wichita, grandchildren: Brice (Myra) Turner of Wichita, Krista (Craig Scholes) Turner of Shawnee, KS, Troy (Amanda) Buford, Austin, TX, and Melissa (Greg) Haudek, Charleston, SC and 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lee loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and continuously endeavored to live his life in accordance with Christ’s teachings. All who knew him often expressed that, “Lee is a wonderful guy!” He loved his church, family, friends, and community. Up to the very end, his great sense of humor could be seen as well as his deep concern for others.
Lee served in the U.S. Air Force before he and Jean moved to Wichita 65 years ago. Lee spent his career in Wichita’s aviation industry, 26 years at Boeing starting out as an electrical inspector for the flight line., Later, he spent 19 years at Cessna as Director Quality Assurance, interfacing with the FAA and certifying and delivering Cessna aircraft. He earned his degree at WSU and became an avid Shocker Fan. His joy in serving others led him to many service projects including 20 years as a volunteer at Via Christi St. Francis.
Visitation with family 6:00-8:00 pm, Friday, at Broadway Mortuary. Funeral service 10:00 am, Saturday, at Central Christian Church with burial following at 2:00 pm, at Attica Cemetery, Attica, KS.
