Lawrence Otis (Larry) Cunningham of Wichita, KS, retired service tech with Midwest Sewing & Vacuum, was born February 28, 1954 and passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the age of 65. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Carol Beach; brothers James (Jim) and William (Bill) Cunningham and sister Nina Cunningham. Survivors include sons Jeremy, Jeff, and Justin Beach; nephews Grant Smith, Brett Cunningham; niece Jamie Brannan; and 4 grandchildren. He attended school in Wichita at College Hill Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, and East High School before graduating from Metro Meridian.
Larry was an avid pool player who many knew as “Smiley,” which described the look on his face most of the time. Larry always had a shit eating grin and a twinkle in his eyes that can only be described as ornery. He had a chuckle that could put a smile on anyone’s face and a kindness in his heart that he will always be remembered for.
Larry helped hundreds, if not thousands of people in need over the years with a place to stay, a meal, a ride, anything they needed. If someone was homeless with nowhere to go, he would invite them into his home and give them the shirt off his back. He could never turn anyone away. If there was someone in need, Larry was always there.
Loved ones will be gathering by the bridge in College Hill Park at 1:00pm Friday to say final goodbyes, followed by a reception at Harry’s Uptown Bar & Grill.
Contributions toward final expenses are very much appreciated and can be made at gf.me/u/xduxzh.
