Laura Ruth Macy Cline
1948-2019
Laura Ruth Macy Cline was born November 17, 1948, in Clay Center, Kansas, the 2nd child and only daughter born to Alton Ralph Macy and Margaret Ruth McCormick Macy. Laura died on September 5, 2019 at Lake Point of Wichita, Kansas at the age of 70 years.
Laura grew up on a rural Augusta, Kansas farm with four brothers, all the family active at Central Baptist Church on Santa Fe Lake. Laura graduated from Augusta High School in 1966 and from Friends University in 1970. She was married to David Knute Cline on May 19, 1979 at Allerton Baptist Church in Wichita. They had 40 years of marriage. To this marriage were born two sons, Aaron Luke and Abraham Timothy.
Laura worked for several years at the Masonic Home where she eventually met David Cline. After her marriage to David, Laura’s life was devoted to family and church. She used her education from Friends most directly for home schooling her sons, and then, her grandchildren.
High commitment in the local church was always a part of Laura’s life; Allerton Baptist for more than twenty years - South City Baptist for more than a dozen years, and more recently at Metropolitan Baptist Church. She was deeply involved in ministry to children, teaching Sunday School, directing several Vacation Bible Schools, directing Fall Festival as a Halloween alternative, mentoring others through piano and writing lessons. Adult ministry was also part of her commitment as she taught Sunday School, played the piano for services, and served as church librarian – cataloging, adding books and encouraging reading.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother Wesley Macy. She is survived by her husband, David, of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Aaron Cline and Abraham Cline, both of Wichita; five grandchildren - Gaven Mork, Ann Cline, Abel Cline, Abigail Cline, and Adalia Cline; three brothers – David Macy (Rebecca) of Clay Center, Kansas; Thomas Macy (Linda) of Carmel, Indiana; and John Macy (Robin) of Miltonvale, Kansas; one sister in law, Sharon Macy, of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Broadway Mortuary. The funeral will be Wednesday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Wichita. Interment will be at the Wesleyan Cemetery of rural Oak Hill, Kansas.
