Larry Standiford

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Standiford. A cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and beloved member of the Wichita community, where he built a legacy of dedication and love for family and enduring passion for sports. A Reception Gathering with family will be held at Cozine Life Events Center, 11500 E. 21st St. N., on Sunday, March 2, from 2-4 pm. Celebration of Life Service, 11 am, Monday, March 3, also at Cozine Life Events Center.

A proud graduate of Mulvane High School, Larry excelled as a standout athlete in track, football, and basketball. His athletic journey continued at Southwestern College where he received a scholarship to play football. It was at Southwestern College where he met Patricia Somerville, who soon became the love of his life. The woman who would become his lifelong partner for 70 years.

Larry was a successful business partner at Axle and Wheel Aligning Company for over 50 years. His unwavering commitment and skills earned him the admiration of colleagues and customers alike. His long tenure was a testament to his strong work ethic and loyalty. These qualities defined him both professionally and personally.

Everything Larry did revolved around his family. Whether he was hunting pheasants in the wide open fields of Western Kansas, or tending to his farms, these moments were more than just pastimes -- they were precious family times. Larry loved to work at the farm and took pride in his work. He could always find something that needed to be done. His list of projects was endless. These outdoor adventures were opportunities to strengthen family bonds and create cherished memories together that will endure for generations to come.

Larry and his family were active members at Asbury Methodist Church for many years. His strong Christian faith was an inspiration to all he came in contact with. His passion for sports extended far beyond his own achievements. He coached hundreds of young athletes in baseball and basketball, sharing his knowledge, enthusiasm, and love for the game. His influence helped shape countless lives, leaving a lasting legacy in a community he held dear.

Upon retiring, he embraced a new and joyful role which included attending the sporting events of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He quickly became their biggest fan, a familiar and beloved figure on the sidelines, offering unwavering support and pride with every game. He also was a big fan of Tabor Baseball and Wichita State baseball and basketball.

Larry was preceded in death by his son, Michael Standiford; parents, Elmer and Marjorie Standiford; brothers, Robert Standiford and Roger Standiford; and sister, Beverly Rogers. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Patricia Standiford; their children, Marsha and Bill Campbell, Mark and Renee Standiford, and Michelle and Kelly Zane; and 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and countless friends and community members touched by his warmth and generosity. His life was a shining example of devotion to family, hard work, and service to others. While we grieve his loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary man he was and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him. His legacy of love, community, and sportsmanship will inspire us all for years to come. We all look forward to the day that we will be together again, but for now we will hold your memories close to our heart. Memorials have been established with Phoenix Hospice and Salvation Army.
