Johnson, Jw O.,80, of Wichita passed away July 19 due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. Born at home in Eureka, Kansas on December 9, 1937, to Leonard and Cora Lee Johnson, Jw moved to Wichita as a child. He began work at age 11 as a golf caddy and so began a life marked by an admirable work ethic. He began working at Safeway while in high school at West High and continued in this career until his retirement. An avid golfer, Jw liked nothing better than being on a golf course, except spending time with his 5 beloved grandchildren. Unfailingly friendly and optimistic, Jw made friends at every grocery store he managed, on every golf course he golfed, and in any long line he found himself waiting in. Jw loved Corvettes, a good hamburger, a cold rum and coke, and especially his wife of 57 years, Nicky, and their three children. He is survived by his wife, Nicky; sister, Javonnie Maak; son, Kelly Johnson; daughters, Jennifer Martin and Shannon Harvell (John Harvell); and five grandchildren. A wonderful friend, father, husband and granddaddy, he will be sorely missed. Memorial service, 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway.
