After 57 years with Cerebral Palsy, Julie Reneé Chism was met by her Savior and is no longer confined to a wheelchair, but is rejoicing with boundless abilities in the presence of all that have gone before her. Julie was born on July 14, 1967 in Wichita, Kansas. She was the first daughter of three born to Gwenn and Jack D. Chism, Jr. She endured extreme limitations over her life and it would be easy to make that what defined her; however, that is not who she was. She was quick to laugh, always coming up with ways to live more independently, humble, in love with worship on-line or at church, very compassionate toward others, loved the water and the sun and had a very sharp memory.
Julie lived at Disability Supports of the Great Plains in Hutchinson, Kansas in a neighborhood where she had constant access to care but full freedom of movement since she loved to go really fast in her electric wheelchair. She was an artist who exhibited and sold her work at The Clay Works in Hutchinson. Earlier in life she earned money by selling greeting cards she designed while attending classes at Wichita State University.
She is survived by her mother, Gwenn Morley Chism, her sisters and their families, Laura Long (Michael), Jennifer Graham (Joe), aunts, uncles, cousins and the many residents and caregivers who lived and worked along-side her at Disability Supports. She is preceded in death by her father, Jack D. Chism, Jr. and her grandparents, Burt and Geneva Morley and Jack and Guelda Chism, Sr.
Her Celebration of Life will be on December 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cozine Life Events Center in Wichita, KS.
