Joel Bonnell

December 29, 1923 — May 21, 2015

Bonnell, Jr., Joel Dewey, 91, went to be with his Lord on May 21, 2015. Joel was born in Wichita on December 29, 1923 and was preceded in death by his parents, Joel Bonnell, Sr. and Charlott Joyce; wife, Kay Jean Brewer; brother, William (Bill); and sister, Shirley Moore. Survivors include his brother, John Bonnell; nephew, Robert Bonnell; niece, Susie Bonnell Smith; and two other nieces. He attended Wichita East High School, Kansas State Teacher's College at Pittsburg, Oklahoma AandM, and Georgia Tech University. He was a veteran of WWII, serving on a B-17 Bomber as a Turret and Tail Gunner on fifty missions. He was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters for valor in combat, and also earned seven Battle Stars for participation in air combat over seven countries in Europe. As an engineer, he was employed by several major corporations. Graveside Services will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, May 26, Maple Grove Cemetery, 1000 N. Hillside. Memorials to: Mt.
