Jeffrey "Jeff" Paulsen was born to Lawrence and Shirley Paulsen on July 21, 1952 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and graduated from high school there. He became a nurse, and later earned a Master's degree in public health. From 1987-1992, he was in Peshawar, Pakistan to lead an American relief agency helping Afghan refugees to get medical training.
In Peshawar, he met his wife, Cornelia "Conny" Paulsen, and they adopted their first child Priscilla. Together, they went to Tajikistan where they lived from 1992-2005. There, Jeff led an international team that helped orphans and provided medical training. During those years, Elena, Helen, and Nikolai joined the family.
After moving to the United States, they lived for 4 years in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where Jeff worked with a Christian international relief organization. The next ten years Jeff lived with his family in St. Francis, Kansas, where he was the nursing home administrator. During this time, Tyler was added to the family.
In 2019, after Jeff had retired, the Paulsens settled in Wichita to be close to their grandchildren, Jayden and Adelaide. Jeff was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and will be sorely missed. He passed to be with his Lord and Savior, whom he dearly loved, on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
Jeff had a passion and deep love for mission work. To memorialize this love, a memorial has been established with the missions fund at Eastminster Presbyterian Church.
Funeral service celebrating Jeff's life will begin at 10:00am, Wednesday, September 20, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Viewing will be one hour prior to service, at 9:00am, also at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at 2:00pm, Wednesday, September 20, at White Chapel Cemetery.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Cornelia "Conny" Paulsen; daughter, Helen Paulsen and her partner, Fernando Chali and her son, Jayden; daughter and son-in-law, Priscilla and Justin Nations and their daughter, Adelaide; daughter, Elena Paulsen; sons, Nikolai Paulsen, and Tyler Paulsen; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Rich VanIstendal; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Mary Paulsen and their children, Jeremiah, Ian, and Grace Ann.
