Bayouth, Jeanette Marie Farha, retired Microbiologist from McConnell AFB, died April 5, 2015. Trisagion Services at Broadway Mortuary Tuesday 5:30pm, with visitation from 5:00-7:00pm. Funeral services at St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral, Wednesday 10:00am. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery. Jeanette was born on April 27, 1933 in Alva, Oklahoma. She graduated from Wichita East in 1951, entering Wichita University on academic scholarship. While in college she worked for 50A� an hour washing needles and test tubes at The Wichita Clinic. During her college years she served in Student Forum Board and dined with Eleanor Roosevelt prior to the former First Lady’s lecture to the student body. Jeanette was a cheerleader and a Wheatie Sweetie. When the WU basketball team went to the NIT at Madison Square Garden in 1954, she found a way for the Women’s Pep Club to attend the game. In 1955 Jeanette earned her bachelor’s degree in Microbiology with a minor in chemistry, being only the third woman of Lebanese heritage in Wichita to graduate from college. After graduation from WU, she attended Medical Technology Training at Hermann Hospital in Texas, and graduated as a Medical Technologist. During her 49-year career she worked at St. Joseph Hospital and the American Red Cross and 14 years as a Supervisor in Microbiology at McConnell Air Force Base. She was an active member of Southwestern Association of Clinical Microbiology. She received several professional awards including the 2002 Medical Group Civilian of the Year. On July 8, 2005 a retirement ceremony was given in her honor by the 22nd Medical Group. Jeanette married Robert E. Bayouth on September 13, 1959. She had a lust for life and enjoyed the challenge of trying everything. She collected hats from all over the world including Lebanon, Greece, Egypt and Spain. Some of the unique things she did were hiking up Mount Sinai where Moses received the Ten Commandments, climbing the Great Wall of China, and flying on a KC 135 tanker where she laid beside the boom operator while he refueled a plane over Oklahoma. On her 57th birthday she swung from a chandelier at Athena Jewelry in Downtown Wichita, and on her 69th birthday she was part of Team in Training that walked a half marathon (13.1 miles) and raised over $3,000 for leukemia. Jeanette was a lifetime member of St. George Cathedral, WSU Alumni Association, SASO for 30 years, and a supporter of Wichita West Lions Club. She volunteered for Exploration Place and The Treehouse. Her parents, Henry and Saada Farha, and brother, Jim, preceded her in death. Jeanette is survived by her husband Robert, sons Bryan (Sue) of Seattle and Dr. John (Michelle) of Madison and three grandchildren, brother Henry Jr. (Joyce) Farha of Wichita, and sister-in-law Patricia Dixon of California.
