James Johnson

August 22, 1939 — March 15, 2015

Johnson, James (JB) retired Wichita Public School Administrator passed away, March 15, 2015, after a short battle with cancer. Memorial Services will be Thursday, March 19, 2015, 10:30 a.m. First Mennonite Brethren Church. Preceded in death by parents Harold, and Ruth, sisters Jan and Sondra, and niece Renee. Survivors include sons Chris (Cindy), Jeff (Tammy), four grandchildren Keaton, Kyle, Brent, Kaleb and two great-grandchildren Aiden and Phoenix, and special friend Terese. JB attended Bellevue High School in Washington and graduated in 1957. He then attended WSU where he completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education (1965) and a Masters of Education Degree (1968). In 1994 he helped start and organize AYSO soccer in Wichita. He was coach, referee and a mentor to kids of all ages. During this time he played fast pitch softball and he would announce the softball games in his spare time. In 1979 he was asked to be the Wichita Wings announcer and for most of the twenty years was the voice of the Wings. He was a pillar of the soccer community and during his time as a high school and college referee inspired many lives. He will be greatly missed by all. Memorials to Good Shepherd Hospice and American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Region 208.
