James Enix, Jr.

James "Jim" Robert Enix, Jr. (81) of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019.  He was born on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1937 in Cherokee, Oklahoma to James Robert Enix, Sr., and Alma Hodges Enix. He married Ann Cochran on August 15, 1959 in Gould, Oklahoma for 59 wonderful years. The youngest of 4 children, he was the only son with three older sisters, Ruth, Lucille, and Margery. He attended school in Stillwater, Oklahoma and graduated from Stillwater High School, and Oklahoma State University with a degree in Agricultural Economics. During college he was active in ROTC and the Army Reserves before serving as a Lieutenant in the Army at Ft. Lee, Virginia. Jim worked at the Farmers Co-op in Red Rock, and Tonkawa, Oklahoma before working at the Wichita Bank for Cooperatives for 30 years, beginning as a business analyst and working his way up to President. Volunteering his time helping others and mentoring youth with the Boy Scouts of America serving as Cub Master, Scout Master, and Explorer Advisor of Troop 703 was a joy of his.  Jim Enix was one of the founders over 40 years ago of the Boy Scout Winter Rendezvous that continues to this day.  He served as a Scout Master to National Scout Jamboree in 1977, completed the Woodbadge training course, and also earned Vigil membership in the Order of the Arrow. He and Ann were also awarded the high honor of Silver Beaver for their work in Scouting. Jim also volunteered his time with 4-H.  He and wife Ann helped organize the Sunflower 4-H Club in Wichita, serving as leaders for many years.  They helped start a 4-H fishing project for Sedgewick County and they lead the club leathercraft project for many years. After retirement Jim and Ann moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he was active in First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Golden Kiwanis, and OLLI (Ochsner Life-Long Learning Institute).   In the Summer of 2018, Jim and Ann moved to a retirement home in Wichita, Kansas due to health concerns. He and Ann spent their summer months at their cabin in Buffalo Creek, Colorado.  They loved participating in the many Buffalo Creek community events where he served as president of Buffalo Park Improvement Association President of the The Little Chapel in the Hills for several years, enjoyed the weekly Saturday evening Pot Lucks and being active in worship at The Little Chapel in the Hills. They also loved to travel.  When his children were growing up they traveled from Canada to Mexico and all around the United States with a camper. Jim also loved to fish and many of his summers involved a family fishing trip to Colorado. Jim Enix is preceded in death by his parents, James R. Enix, Sr. and Alma Enix; sisters Ruth Fash (Roska) and Margery Enix. Survived by wife Ann; daughter Kathryn (Kathy) and Michael Moore of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son Byron Enix and wife Carol of Wichita, Kansas, 5 Granddaughters, 7 Great-grandsons, sister, Lucille Enix of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Calvary United Methodist Church at 11:00 am in the sanctuary with a lunch reception in fellowship hall following time of service. A second memorial service will happen this summer at the Little Chapel In the Hills, Buffalo Creek, Colorado on August 2019 with a celebration following at the BPIA (Buffalo Park Improvement Association). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Little Chapel in the Hills; Calvary UMC, Wichita, KS; First UMC, Stillwater, OK; Alzheimer’s Association, or a youth organization of your choice that honors his memory.
