Hilda Ellington

Hilda M. Ellington, 92, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Visitation with Family and friends will be from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, April 17, at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of First United Methodist Church, 340 N. Broadway, on Monday, April 18, at 11:00 a.m. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel C. and Rachel McCall, and a brother, Powell McCall of Greenwood, SC. Her husband, Wallace (Wally) D. Ellington, after 50 years of marital bliss, died on March 9, 2004. Their daughter, Nancy Lynn Ellington died on January 22, 2014. Hilda was a beloved and devoted wife and mother. She retired as Secretary and Office Manager for George Mastio, M.D., General Surgeon. Hilda was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Wichita until her health made it impossible for her to attend services. She was very active with Starkey, Inc., where their daughter Lynn was a client. Hilda is survived by a brother, David B. McCall (Brenda) of Greenwood, SC; nephew, Scott D. McCall (Danie); great-nephew, Taylor McCall of Athens, GA; nieces, Cindy McCall and Beth Keenan of Lompoc, CA; and sister-in-law, Nancy McCall of Greenwood, SC. Hilda was born in rural Dillon County, SC on April 7, 1924, to Daniel and Rachel McCall. She married Wallace D. Ellington in Chesterfield County, SC on January 16, 1954. To this union, their beloved daughter, Nancy Lynn Ellington was born on January 8, 1957 in Florence, SC. Lynn was a special needs child which brought the Ellington family to Wichita. They came to Wichita to get treatment for Lynn at the Institute of Logopedics and stayed. Special thanks to the staff of Homestead Health Center and encompass Hospice.
