Moser, Herbert Charles, age 88, died Feb. 24, 2018, “I’m ready to sit at Jesus’ feet.” Herb was born March 5, 1929, in Camp Verde, AZ, the youngest of six children, to Alvin Joseph & Ivy Naomi Klaus Moser. He planned to be a carpenter until his high school science teacher encouraged him to pursue chemistry. At 17, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps then used his GI bill to graduate from San Jose State University in California. While there, he met Gertrude Mercer and they were married on Nov. 21, 1951. He completed his PhD in physical chemistry at Iowa State University then began a career as a professor at Kansas State University. Herb was the consummate teacher, deeply curious about everything and gifted at sharing his insights. He impacted generations of students at KSU through his teaching and as faculty advisor to Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. Herb demonstrated his heart of service to his family & community in numerous other ways. He began leadership in Boy Scouts while working with his sons and continued to train other leaders for many years. He continued to tutor young people well after retirement. He was active in teaching & leadership at Grace Baptist Church, Manhattan, KS. He used his carpentry skills to serve & teach his family, his church, & many others. He prayed for his family, friends, & neighbors daily and was a devoted husband who provided care for Gertrude until his own health failed. Herb is survived by Gertrude, his loving wife of 66 years, his sister Virginia of Sedona, AZ, his sons, Scott (Sharon) of Wichita, and Steven of Manhattan, KS, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at East Evangelical Free Church, Wichita, at 2 PM, Saturday, March 3. Memorials to the Herbert C.
