Gloria Voss Kurbanick was born in Grand Island, Nebraska, on January 16, 1943, to
Barney and Wilhelmina Voss. She graduated from Texas Women’s University. She
took her first position as a speech therapist in Binghamton, NY, where she met her
future husband. She was married to Peter Kurbanick in Grand Island on July 24,
1969.
Gloria lived most of her adult life in Chesnee, South Carolina, where she worked
primarily as a speech therapist and lived in a lovely log cabin with Peter and a variety
of pets. They had beautiful gardens , including a fish pond and cupola.
She and Peter traveled extensively, including when they lived in France for a couple
of years for Peter’s job. Gloria was very interested in where she came from and
researched German family; she met contemporary relatives in Germany and
introduced other family travelers to them.
For the last few years, Gloria lived at New Life Home Plus in Wichita, where she was
cared for by loving and kind staff members. Her niece, Sandy Nietfeld, and nephew,
Cary Nietfeld, both of Wichita, took care of her financial and health matters. Other
nieces and nephews who will miss her include Thea Nietfeld, Chip Nietfeld, Sharon
Daniels, Dan Emery, David Voss, and Carolyn Voss.
