Elizabeth Gibbs

In loving memory of Elizabeth Ann Weiss Tracy Gibbs

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Elizabeth, better known as Liz, who departed this world on December 16, 2023.

Born on September 9, 1944, in Oklahoma City, OK, Liz was raised in Mountain View, OK by her beloved parents, Monroe and Elsie Weiss.

Liz was a God-loving woman and prided herself on her perfect attendance of Sunday school from nursery through grade 12—even if she traveled, she found a church to attend. She also loved to play basketball and was a good student, earning Valedictorian of Mountain View High School with 40 graduating students.  Liz moved to Wichita, KS following her sister Bev, in 1962.

Liz married Bill, the love of her life, in 1981, and they had the best of times for six short years. Before their union and the arrivals of their children, Angie and David, Liz spent 20 years as the Director of Volunteers for St. Francis hospital while raising children Mike, Steve, and Doug as a single parent. During this time, she found lifelong friends through her bowling team. She also shared her love of music and dance, teaching piano and dance lessons for many years.

Liz’s life was a testament to love, devotion, and laughter—and her impact on the lives of those around her will be remembered through the love she gave, the laughter she shared, and her generous spirit. Liz’s family brought her so much joy, but it extended past her own to the many children she had the privilege to care for in her daycare over the years. She loved so many children as her own and had more love in her heart to continue to give.

It’s no secret to those that knew her that Liz’s love language was food and partying: most have experienced her love through her food, but only a lucky few experienced her 2 am breakfasts. If you were fortunate enough to know Liz well, you know she loved her sports, almost as much as she loved her dog, Savannah. She wouldn’t miss a KU or Chiefs game, but she would watch anything from golf to minor league baseball.

Liz is preceded in death by husband, Bill Gibbs; parents, Monroe and Elsie Weiss; William and Thelma Gibbs (Ihde); and children, Steve Tracy, and Meghan (Michael) Angel. Liz’s legacy is carried on by children, Mike (Lori) Tracy, Doug (Ofelia) Tracy, William (Heather) Gibbs, Angela (John) Gibbs-Scanlon, and David Gibbs; sister, Beverly Poole; and nephew Gary Poole.

Liz was a cherished grandmother to Kanissa Bell, Koree Bell, Morgan Tracy, Kammi Bell, Jackson Tracy, Brayden Tracy, Queenie Marie Carillo-Tracy, Douglas Tracy, William (Alley) Gibbs, Nicholas Gibbs, Nathan (Ashley) Gibbs, Madison Angel, Mitchel Angel, Henry Scanlon, Franklin Scanlon, and Mateo Gibbs; and great-grandmother to Micah Gibbs, and Caroline, Elijah, and Oliver Sommer.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who visited and cared for Liz in her final years. We hope you will join us for a visitation from 6-8pm on Thursday, December 28, at the Cozine Life Events Center. Funeral service will be the following day, Friday, December 29, at 2:00pm at East Heights United Methodist Church.

We will miss you, our beloved Mom, Sister, Aunt, Grandma, Gigi, MomLiz, Great Grandmother, and Lizaroo!

Ps. Until we meet again, we’ll bring your tambourine.
