Hill, Edith Marie, formerly of Wichita, KS, passed away at the age of 93 on November 20, 2017 in Winfield, KS. Edith was born to parents, Fred and Mabel Wadleigh of Cheraw, Colorado. Edith's parents died when she was quite young and their older sister, Irene, raised her and her younger sister, Myrtle. She was educated in the Cheraw schools and worked in a bank in La Junta, CO upon graduation. In 1951 Edith moved to Wichita KS to work at Boeing Military Aircraft
She started as a timekeeper and worked to become an administrative assistant in military contracts. Edith was proud of the 35 years she worked at Boeing.
In 1964, Edith married Douglas Hill. They enjoyed fishing, raising a large garden, and especially music. She and Doug both played instruments and sang. Friends spent many hours in their home enjoying singing and playing music with them. Doug passed away in 1980 after a long illness.
Since 1958 Edith was an active member of the Wichita Women's Bowling Association {WWBA). She was Treasurer of the WWBA for 20 years and in 1983 she was made a WWBA Member Emeritus. For over 50 years Edie (as she was known to her bowling buddies), bowled a couple times a week, well into her eighties. She traveled to Canada and 40 of the 50 states for national tournaments. She was inducted into the Wichita Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1983. She highly valued all her friendships made over the year in bowling. Edith was a member of the Haysville Methodist Church, She taught Sunday School and was active in the work of the church until her health failed. When her health began to fail Edith moved to Winfield, KS to be close to her niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mabel Wadleigh, loving husband Douglas Hill; and siblings, Irene Marlin, Roy Wadleigh and Walter Wadleigh. Survivors include caregiver and niece, Debra (Rick) Hathaway; nieces Carol Giesbers and Lois Irene Dunn; nephew, Charles Daehn; sister, Myrtle Daehn; numerous great-nieces and nephews; family and friends.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Monday, November 27, and Funeral Service 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017, both at Broadway Mortuary in Wichita. Memorials to: Haysville Methodist Church.
