Dr. Harry Kouri, Jr.

Dr. Harry J. Kouri, Jr. , born September 22, 1934, fell asleep with the Lord on August 8, 2018. Harry is the son of Harry Kouri, Sr. and Florence Cohlmia Kouri. At the age of 3, his parents moved to Watonga, Oklahoma where he was raised and lived until he attended The University of Oklahoma. He was accepted to Baylor Dental School to further his education and became an accomplished dentist, practicing for over 50 years. He maintained two dental practices, one in Haysville and one in Wichita. After his first year of practice, he met the love of his life, Beverly Homsey. They married, lived in Haysville Kansas, and raised their three children: Kelli, Trey, and Ashley. After several years, he expanded his practice to Wichita, and moved his family as well. Harry was a civic leader and served as the President of the School Board for several years. Harry created the Dental Health program for Haysville and every year he personally examined every student. Harry designed and developed the Sedgwick County Dental Program for the Sedgwick County Jail. He served for more than 28 years as their primary dentist and provided excellent Dental service.  In addition to being a leader in his field, he was one of ten Dentists in the Nation, asked to author a chapter in the book, The Art and Science of Being a Dentist. In “Harry” fashion, his chapter was entitled “Compassion IS Key.” His many other accomplishments include: An active board member of the Peach Capital Rodeo; creator of The KCK Saddle Club; life-long member of St. George Orthodox Church, served on numerous church committees, served many years on the St. George Parish Council; and active member of both the Masons and the Shriners. Harry was a proud member of St. Ignatius of Antioch. Harry was the ultimate family man. He adored his wife of more than 57 years. They traveled, raised a beautiful family, and shared their mutual commitment of their faith and enjoyed life.   He cherished spending time with his family. He created a magical childhood for not only his children but for his nieces and nephews. It was filled with family memories including horses, mini bikes, boat trips, and a very special KCK (Kouri Cohlmia Kouri) farm. Weekends were filled with trail rides, cook outs, boating, and lots of family time! Harry had a special zest for life. His smile would light up a room and his oh so famous greeting, “Oh pretty good how are you?”, left a smile on everyone’s heart. He was always loving, forever selfless, entertaining, and fun! He had a pure heart and loved with all of his heart. He was an outstanding role model to all that were blessed to know him. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He loved each and every one of them and each one is convinced, they were his favorite.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry J. Kouri, Sr. and Florence Cohlmia Kouri; his in-laws Joe R. and Josephine B. Homsey; and his brother-in-law, Terry Smith. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly; his daughter Kelli, her husband Dr. Charles Neagle, and their children Chuck IV, Elan, and Brogan Neagle; his son Harry J. “Trey” Kouri, III, his wife Annette, and their children, Erika, her fiancé Dr. Paul Shadid, Harry “Jake” Kouri IV, and Amanda Kouri; his daughter Ashley, her husband Geoff, and their children Halsten, Geoffrey, Joel, and Harper Amend; his brother Dr. Sam Kouri, Sr. and his wife Jacque; his brothers and sisters-in-law Carolyn Smith, Joe R. and Patsy Homsey, Jr., Terri and Mike Laham; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service Sunday, August 12th at 7:00 pm at St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral, 7515 E. 13th St. Wichita, KS 67208.
