Donald G. (Don) Davis born May 20, 1928 passed away Friday, January 22, 2016. Funeral Service, 2 pm Friday January 29, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Wichita, KS. His parents, William M. Davis and Jettie F. Davis, were longtime owners of small neighborhood grocery stores in Tulsa. Don had one older brother, Russell, who preceded him in death.
Don, graduated from Central High School Tulsa, Class of 1947. He was a member of the 1946 State High School track team.
Don joined the U S Navy in June 1946. While serving, Don trained as an Electronics Technician, and became a Division Petty Officer on board the USS Gilmore, based at Key West, FL. The Williamsburg - Presidential Yacht - along with Harry S. Truman would occasionally dock right next to the USS Gilmore. Don was honorably discharged from the Navy in May, 1948.
Upon returning to Oklahoma, he attended the University of Tulsa. He soon met his soul mate, Terry, and they were married November 3, 1951 and celebrated 64 wonderful years together
Don joined the IBM Corporation in 1953. His career with IBM covered 37 years during the computer revolution. IBM gave Don skills in technical service, programming and marketing. After working in Tulsa, Topeka, Indianapolis and Oklahoma City, Don retired from IBM in 1990.
Don and |Terry were active members of Asbury United Methodist Church, Tulsa, OK and the Downtown Tulsa Kiwanis Club. They moved to Wichita, Ks in 2012. They are current members of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
Don considered his loving family to be his most treasured legacy. He was preceded in death by son Roger Eric Davis in 2013. Don is survived by his loving wife, Terry of Wichita; son, Randy (Karen) Davis of Wichita; daughter Vikki (Dean) Zagortz, of Prairie Village, KS; son Rob (Mia) Davis of Dallas, TX; daughter-in-law, Ann B. Davis of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren Erin (Clark) Moeller, Wichita; Emily (Charlie) Mangrum, Washington, D.C; Davis Zagortz (Heidi Eckenberg), Chicago, IL; Ellie (Dan) Beckler, Milpitas, CA; Mary Catherine Davis, Dallas, TX; Callaway Davis, Tulsa, OK; Gracie Davis, Dallas, TX and great grandchildren, Teddy and Davis Moeller, Peyton and Layla Beckler.
