Carrier, Dennis Lee 81, passed away Friday Dec. 15, 2023, in Wichita, KS. He entered
this life in Gypsum, KS. as the youngest of 2 sons to George and Lela Carrier.
Dennis’s formative years were spent growing up on a small farm near Gypsum,
Kansas where he learned many skills of resourcefulness, hard work, dedication, and
thankfulness. He graduated from nearby Chapman High School in 1961 where he was
active in football and baseball, choir and band. A highlight of his high school years
was being part of a quintet called the Hi-Five.
Dennis was blessed with the ability to be quick witted and possessed a winsome
smile that was engaging and friendly. These characteristics particularly came into
play while attending a local Wichita dance establishment, “Deermores”. Dennis’s eye
caught the attention of a beautiful girl in attendance but did not have the guts to ask
her to dance. Over a few months he worked his way up to the table where this girl
was sitting and started the conversation. Quickly, a song began and the young girl
not wanting to dance with a toe stepping gentleman, selected Dennis as her partner
and a romance was born.
Three months later, that dance led to matrimony, to his beloved dance partner,
Freda Marie Carrier. They married on April 8, 1962, and four years later were blessed
with daughter Wendy Dawn. Again in 1969 were blessed with another daughter Misty
Marie. Sixty-one years of dancing and laughter would be part of his wonderful legacy
of life.
Sales became a natural talent for Dennis that led to a life of sales. Most of the time
spent selling automobiles for Datsun, Davis Moore and Scholfield’s. In his later years,
he found employment with Maize School District driving a school bus. He gave
himself the name, “Curby”. Curby kept the children laughing while safely
transporting them to and from school.
In 1979 while seeking for answers and caring for their beautiful daughter Misty,
stricken with Leukemia. Dennis, Freda and the girls attended a healing service at
Oral Roberts University. After a long weekend of preaching and activities, and a road
trip back home. Dennis turned on the radio for music to sooth his troubled soul, only
to find preaching on every station. Compelled to pull over, he surrendered his life to
Christ changing his life forevermore. Westlink Christian Church and Country Acres
Baptist Church became places of spiritual growth. Highlighted by Freda and the girls
joining him in baptism. Other activities included choir membership, led bible studies,
Sunday school teachers, youth mission leaders, and drove the bus for weekly Awana
clubs.
Dennis’ life was centered on Christ and devotion to his family. Experiencing Misty’s
death only led to a more abiding life in Christ. This choice in his earthly life led to
experiencing everlasting life in Christ Jesus. What an amazing joy to hear his
daughter Misty say, “Welcome home Daddy I’ve been waiting for you!”
Dennis is preceded in death by his daughter Misty Marie, granddaughter Angel Marie
mother and father, Lela and George Carrier. Survived by his wife Freda; daughter
Wendy and husband Dan Atkeson, and grandchildren Misty and Jared Randolph, Zach
and Erica Atkeson, Zach Axton, Holly and Quincy Poore, Elijah, Jeremiah, and Victoria
