Taylor, David B “Davey”, Beloved husband, Father, Grandfather, and Brother, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 1st 2017. David began his career with Southwestern Bell in their house services department. He was the third generation to work for “Ma Bell”. His Grandfather James Taylor was the first, then his Father David Taylor Sr., and then Davey. He was so proud of his family’s heritage with the company and loved the fact that he was known far and wide as “The Telephone Man”. David could keep you entertained for hours with his stories of the company and the customers he loved so well. Davey began his career in “House Services” where he worked 3rd shift taking care of the building at 154 N. Broadway. He loved to go with his friends in Operator Services, to the Fairland CafAAC. for “lunch” at 3:00AM. From there he moved to a better job in “The Frame” where he worked on cross-connecting phone lines. He moved on to “Station Installation” – working at some of the biggest industries in Wichita like Boeing and Beech Aircraft, installing, moving, and changing hundreds of phone stations. His last position was special services, working on data circuits. He loved working the broadcast circuits, where he could stay and watch the game while monitoring their connection. After a 40+ year career with SWB/SBC/ATandT, Davey decided to retire. At that point he began a second career at Communications Technology Associates, Inc (CTA, Inc) where he worked as a Station Technician from Aug of 1991 to Aug of 2002. He was back at the job he loved, installing phone systems, and being out with customers. Davey had many things in his life he was passionate about. He loved his family first and foremost. His daughters were the love of his life. After losing his wife Sue several years ago, he was Blessed with the love of his current wife Judy (Sinn) Taylor who made the last years of his life so full. She and her Daughter and Sons and extended family brought much happiness to his world. For many years Davey was very popular in the local racing community. His exploits in his #14 Camero were legendary, with many younger racers growing up watching him on the track at 81 Speedway or at the Hutchinson Fair Grounds. They’d ask him for suggestions on how they could improve their stats and he was always willing to share his ideas and loved the chance to talk about racing. Davey was an avid “Trap Shooter” competing in many competitions all over the mid-west. He shot at Beech Aircraft’s range every Wednesday night for many years. Davey grew up helping his Father with their Greyhound racing business. One of their Greyhounds was “CarlaFax”, who was sponsored by the Holiday Inn. Davey loved to tell the story about walking into a Holiday Inn and seeing a photo of CarlaFax with the CEO of Holiday Inn, and remarking on it. The Hotel Manager asked if he knew the dog. Davey said “I don’t know her, we own her… she’s named after my Daughter”. Needless to say the hotel rolled out the red carpet for his stay! Davey attended First Church Of The Nazarene of Wichita, KS where he spent many happy hours volunteering at church functions and looked forward to getting to spend time every Sunday with his Sunday School class. Always quick with a joke, he loved to look for opportunities to make the class laugh. Davey had a health scare a few years ago where they weren’t sure he would make it. He said “I thought about my life and I realized that all in all it had been a really good one, how Blessed I was, and that I couldn’t complain. I told The Lord f it was my time to go, I have no complaints”. I’m sure he’s in Heaven and busy greeting all of his friends and family that went before him. Davey is survived by his wife Judy (Sinn) Taylor and her Daughter Cathy, two Sons Steven and Scott, His Daughters Carla Taylor of Desota, KS, Daughter Pamela (Taylor) Vogel of Wichita, and Daughter Lori Taylor of Wichita, His Brother Doyle (Rita) Taylor of Pilsen KS, Sister Davita Rudrow of Derby, Sister Delores Hunsaker of Haysville, and many Grandchildren. He’s preceded in death by his Daughter Tammy Taylor and second wife Sue Taylor. He’ll be greatly missed by all that knew him.
