Anderson, David J., died peacefully at home Thursday, October 26, 2017. Services at City Life Church, 216 E. 2ND Street, Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. David was born in Wichita, Kansas April 22, 1943 to Millard and Alice Anderson. He graduated from West High School and Wichita State University. David’s business career was anchored in the banking industry working for Kansas State Bank, Fourth Financial Bank and as President of Bob Moore Leasing. David re-branded the leasing company to be named Dealers Leasing in 1969, and led this highly respected local organization for nearly 50 years. It is now owned and operated by his oldest son, David Urban, and known as Lease Finance Partners.
David’s mantra for himself and family was “Do a job great or small, do it well or not at all.” David was committed to the communities in which he lived and took on roles demanding great integrity. He served as Mayor and council member of Eastborough, President of Rotary, Crestview and Tallgrass Country Clubs. He often participated in RIF and dictionary distribution at the local elementary schools and was a dedicated bell ringer for the Salvation Army. David supported his alma mater Wichita State University, (President Alpha Kappa Psi, 2001 Alumni Recognition Award, President’s Club Life Member, Society of 1895 member) and was a dedicated WSU sports enthusiast. He was a basketball and baseball season ticket holder and SASO member. David was a regular blood donor to the American Red Cross. Wichita Wagonmasters benefited from his leadership skills and support. He was a past president of the Wichita Swim Club, a member of the Committee on Foreign Relations and a volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. David was an avid golfer and took the lead in making sure everyone had a game and was included in his group. David was the definition of friendship and his friends will miss his creative joke telling skills.
David put his family first and avidly attended children and grandchildren’s swim meets, tennis tournaments, basketball, baseball and soccer games, track meets, cheerleading competitions, as well as music recitals and stage performances. He created wonderful family memories at Flint Hills National and through trips to Table Rock Lake and New York City.
Preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret (Anderson) Hixon. He is survived by his closest friend and wife of nearly 50 years, Susan (Wolf) Anderson, sons, David Urban (wife Joanie), Bradley Anderson; sister, Martha Shore (husband Carl) of Tulsa, OK; and grandchildren, Michael Rost (Denver), Jack and Annie Urban (Lawrence) , Abigail and Lucille Anderson (Wichita).
