In Loving Memory of Christel Buhlinger Weinmann
October 21, 1934 – December 27, 2024
Christel Buhlinger Weinmann, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was called to eternal life on December 27, 2024, at the age of 90. Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, on October 21, 1934, she was the cherished daughter of Otto and Freida Buhlinger and a devoted sister to her twin brothers, Horst and Rolf.
Growing up during the tumultuous years of World War II, Christel developed a resilience and mental toughness that defined her life. She radiated strength and confidence, overcoming challenges with grace—including a private battle with breast cancer that she casually revealed to her family years after her recovery. A self-proclaimed fashionista, Christel had a deep appreciation for life’s finer things.
On April 14, 1955, Christel married, Norbert Horst Weinmann Sr. Together, they built a beautiful family with three children: Juergen, Astrid, and Norbert Jr. In 1961, the family immigrated to the United States, embarking on a journey that took them from Junction City, Kansas, to Cincinnati, Ohio, and ultimately to Kailua, Hawaii. There, the family ran several successful businesses, including the Schnitzel Haus Restaurant and Oriental Kitchen, becoming cherished members of the Kailua community.
In 1991, Christel embarked on a new chapter, settling in Spring Hill, Florida, where she lived for 21 years. She found joy in gardening, crafting, and transforming her home into a haven of beauty and comfort. In 2012, recognizing the importance of being close to family, she relocated to Wichita, Kansas, where she spent her final years surrounded by love and care.
Christel’s legacy lives on through her children: Juergen (Charlene) Weinmann, Astrid Schafer, and Norbert (Trisha) Weinmann; her grandchildren: Monic (Luke) Truscott, Christina (Jeffrey) Hampe, Stephanie (Joshua) Capps, Celeste (Jason) Harvey, Denise (Alexander) Rutenbeck, Mitchell (Katelyn) Schafer, and Melanie (Brandon); her many great-grandchildren; and her one great-great-grandchild.
Christel will be remembered for her boundless strength, elegance, and devotion to her family. Memorial services to be announced at a later date. Share condolences at www.cozine.com. Arrangements by Cozine Memorial Group-Broadway Mortuary.
