Brian Grier

January 29, 1967 — September 26, 2018

Grier, Brian K. , 51, loving husband, father, brother and friend, passed away on September 26, 2018. A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 2, at New Life Covenant Church, 1819 W. Douglas. Brian was a graduate of Wichita North High School. Following high school, Brian continued his education at Wichita State University, shortly after which he decided to devote his life to Christ and to serving others and sought to continue his education at Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, Kansas. There he earned a bachelor’s degree in Christian education and Marriage and Family therapy. Following his graduation, Brian’s home church, Riverlawn Christian, elected to ordain him. After his ordination, Brian completed an internship in Ministry at Westlink Christian Church in Wichita. Following his internship, Brian became a manager at Maude Carpenter Children’s Home (now Carpenter Place) helping troubled youth. It was there in 1994, that he met the love of his life when he hired Melissa Wuthrich. In June of 1995, Brian accepted a position with COMCARE of Sedgwick County and worked there for 23 years. In July of 1995, Melissa and Brian were married. While working full time, Brian earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work. In 1998, Brian and Melissa welcomed the birth of their first child, their daughter, Abby and in 2002, they welcomed the birth of their second child, their son, Alex. Brian was a devoted husband and father, always putting the needs of his wife and children before his own. His wife and children joined him in Urban ministry, serving the needs of community and church. Brian was known for his kind and compassionate heart, his witty sense of humor, his wise counsel and his love for worship and rap music. Brian was also an avid sports fan, cheering for the Chicago Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks. He also known to follow K-State football, WSU basketball, and the Boston Celtics. Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Janette Grier. He is survived by his wife, Melissa Grier; daughter, Abby Grier; son, Alex Grier; brother, Kent (Jan Harrison-Grier) and sister, Jacki (Carl) Harrison.
