Barbara Hurley

Barbara Jean (Bartel) Hurley passed away on December 20, 2023, at Wesley Hospital, after a lengthy illness. She was born to Wesley W. and Esther (Jost) Bartel on February 3, 1953, in Goessel, Kansas. Barbara had a sister, Marilyn, and two brothers, Ralph and Bruce.

Barb married Bob Hurley on June 9, 1972. Together they had one child, Lauren Kyle. She graduated from Newton High School in 1971 and attended Bethel College. She worked as a vascular x-ray tech at St. Francis, and for the Kansas Spine Hospital.

Barbara grew up in the Bethel College Mennonite Church and lived in Wichita since the 1970s. She loved to grow things in her backyard oasis, bake delicious lemon angel cookies, sew velvet patchwork quilts, and collect handmade artistic objects, especially Southwest items.

Surviving family members include her daughter Lauren of Wichita, sister Marilyn Huss (Ray) of Independence, Mo., brother Ralph (Mimi) of Fredericksburg, Texas, brother Bruce (Misty) of North Newton, and many nieces and nephews.
