Akers, Anthony William, “Tony”, age 53, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on April 12th 2015, after an eleven month battle with cancer. For most of his life, Tony struggled with chronic and often uncontrollable epilepsy. Despite this adversity, Tony was an accomplished mechanic, woodworker, and for the past several years, IT professional. He attended and graduated from Wichita Automotive and Electronics Institute in the early 80’s, and completed a correspondence course from National Radio Institute in the late 90’s. He then became the owner/operator of Compu-Doc, in Scott City, Kansas until he and his family moved back to Wichita in 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, William E. Akers, brother-in-law, Robert “Baxter” Appel, and grand-nephew Ethan Rodenberg. On January 19th, 1985, Tony married Denise Appel from Scott City, Kansas. To this union, two sons, Whitney and Sidney, were born. Tony is survived by his wife Denise of Wichita, his two sons Whitney Akers and wife Bevin (FitzGerald) of Andover, Kansas, and Sidney Akers and fiancAC.. Jennifer Bowers of Wichita, his mother Madeline (Hill) Akers of Wichita, one brother Jon Akers of Wichita, one step-sister Joy Brakey of Manhattan, Kansas, lifelong best friend Riley “Danny” Mallatt of Black Diamond, Washington, brothers and sisters-in-law Jim and Robyn (Appel) Brady of Littleton, Colorado, James and Melodee (Appel) Ramey of May, Oklahoma, Pamela (Gimler) Appel of Scott City, Kansas, Gary and Lark (Appel) Speer of Scott City, Kansas, Brian and Cynthia Appel of Scott City, Kansas, Nate Appel of Wichita, seventeen nieces and nephews, fifteen grand nieces and nephews, four great-grand nieces and nephews, and one grandchild, Levi Anthony FitzGerald Akers, born the day after Tony passed. A celebration of Tony’s life will be held at The Museum of World Treasures, 835 E. 1st Street, Wichita, Kansas from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015. If you please, write down your fondest memory of Tony and bring it along to the memorial. These will be collected and shared aloud while we gather for food and fellowship.
