Minnesotan claims Californians are converting Coloradans

“Republicans [in California] are doing badly not only because they are alienating immigrants but because their own supporters are becoming emigrants.

Over the past decade, according to University of Minnesota demographer Bill Frey, more than 1.6 million Californians have moved to other states, most of them middle- and working-class whites.

Much of what was the old base of the Republican Party in California, in effect, has moved, creating new pockets of conservatism in places like Colorado and eastern Washington state.”

– Joel Kotkin in the Nov. 6, 1998, edition of the Wall Street Journal
